You can start your visit by the temple of the Buddha of Jade, north-west of the city (Yu Fo Si, on Anyuan Lu). This temple, one of the rare ones in Shanghai still inhabited by monks, is famous for its two Buddhas, brought back from Burma to the 19th century and carved in a single white jade room. Then go down the south of the city towards the Jing'an temple. It is the oldest Buddhist altar in the city, dating back as far as 247 after Jesus. Today, the Jing'an temple, whose name means "peace and quietness" is located in the heart of one of Shanghai's busiest main roads.
Then turn to the Way and Virtue: .taoism. Bai Yun Guan (White Cloud Temple) is the headquarters of the Shanghai's Taoist association, and it is for the faithful, an important site of teaching and rituals. The temple built in 1863 and completely destroyed during the cultural revolution was rebuilt in 2004. With the Beijing Guan Baiyun, it is the only temple that still has taoist manuscripts dating back to the Ming Dynasty. Many other treasures are conserved in this temple

The most representative of Shanghai is of course the temple of Confucius, located in the old city.
