Norway's first approach

Trip description

For a stay of one week or even less, it is not reasonable to plan a trip to the North or the Far North: the distances are counted in thousands of kilometres to get there and it would be a pity to spend only a few days there in relation to the budget invested. Relying on the "Norway in a Nutshell" tour proposed by the NSB (Norwegian SNCF) can be a good thing - a tour whose itinerary is organised but not imposed. It will therefore be possible to use it as a common thread of the journey, then to turn off on the way to forgotten cities along the way. Possibility to take the tour from Oslo, Bergen, Voss or Flåm. Several possible routes, over one day or more. Rates: from NOK 1 440 per day (Bergen Train, Flam Railway, Aurlandsfjord and Naerøyfjord cruise and return by bus); NOK 2 790 per tour with one night included. Information on www.nsb.no or www.norwaynutshell.com).

This fjord is one of the largest in Norway. It is bordered by high mountains, 1,800 m for the highest. The boat disembarked at Gudvangen. An essential stop before returning to Voss. From Voss, take the train to Bergen.

Day 3 : Visit to Bergen

Your first day in Bergen is to get to know this small town. Take a guided tour of the city, on foot or by bus (depending on the weather!). In the afternoon, visit the many museums, including the famous Hanseatic Museum on Bryggen Pier, but also the Munch Museum. Take the funicular (Fløibanen) to climb up the mountain and have a unique view of this small Rome (as it is nicknamed because of the 7 mountains it is surrounded by...), if possible at nightfall to enjoy amazing colours.

Day 4 : Excursion to the day

On the menu: the Hardanger Fjord, mountains, waterfalls and charming little villages of Ulvk and Eidford.

Day 5 : Bergen as a local

In the morning, visit the fish market. Many galleries are located in the city, many churches. Spend your day strolling through this little pearl of the fjords. The city is charming, and the atmosphere delicious. Armed with the Bergen card, there are still many museums to discover.

Day 6 : Return to Oslo

Walk and shopping in the street Karl Johan. Munch Museum visit, then snacks in a trendy café in the old Kvadraturen quarter.

Day 7 : Latest discoveries in Oslo

Morning walk in Vigeland Park, then visit of the museum. Lunch not far from there, in the former working class district of Oslo, Grünerløkka, now a stronghold of shopping, designers and the city's student district. Tasty blend. In the late afternoon, departure to the airport.
