While most travellers travel to Jamaica to enjoy its heavenly beaches and beautiful seabed, they often omit its capital Kingston, the vibrant heart of Rasta Island. If you have the opportunity to go there and time is short, here is a micro-circuit that will be both informative and relaxing.
Day 1: Arrival in Kingston
Day 2: Historic Kingston
Day 3: Lemon Kay
Immerse yourself in the calm and greenery from the very beginning by visiting Hope Gardens. On the way to your hotel, stop at Devon House, where you can enjoy the best ice cream in the country at I-Scream. At nightfall, go out for a taste of the sulphurous atmosphere of Jamaican sound systems or opt for a chic restaurant like the Red Bones Blues Café or Terra Nova.
In the morning, visit the historical centre of the city. Walk on the waterfront through the Parade, then a short tour to the market, Coronation Market, to discover the tastes and scents of the country. In the afternoon, you can visit the Bob Marley Museum: in addition to a visit to the house, there will be a short film on the life of the famous Rasta, but also souvenir shops and a roots hair salon. You can dine at Café Legend, which serves refined vegetarian cuisine, unless you prefer the romantic terrace of the Liguanea Club.
The island of Lemon Kay is located off Port Royal near the airport and is easily accessible by staying on the side of Morgan's Harbour Hotel. Once in Port Royal, you'll find freshly caught seafood at Gloria, and then embark for a walk at the sea to Lemon Kay, an island surrounded by crystal clear waters, where it's nice to let the sun grow. The fishermen will take you to the hotel with a small fee. Plan the blow with them for the return, history not to miss the plane. But the idea is attractive...
