A trek in Jordan, to discover the desert of Wadi Rum and the ancient Petra.

Wadi Rum Desert... A desert different from the others... a desert steeped in the fabulous history of Lawrence of Arabia... a desert where still live the Bedouin tribes settled there for thousands of years... The colour of the red sand, the tormented shapes of the rocks, the countless gigantic mountains make Wadi Rum a unique and magical place. We will hike among the must-see sites such as the Seven Pillars of Wisdom, the natural and impressive arches of Umm Fruth and Burdha.
Finally, for three days, we will discover on foot the unmissable city of Nabataeans that is Petra, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List and will end our journey on the shores of the Dead Sea, another unusual and mysterious place of Jordan.

Flight to Amman. Reception at the airport by our team then transfer and installation to the hotel.

Day 2 : Amman - Wadi Rum - Umm Ishrin - The Seven Pillars of Wisdom

The Wadi Rum Desert... Meeting with the local Bedouin team then departure on foot in the small maze of natural tracks, surrounded by rock formations with unusual shapes... Discovery of the 7 Pillars of Wisdom, a grandiose place where huge orange boulders of several hundred meters high emerge straight from the sands and impose silence... Superb view of the immense valley of Umm Ishrin, vast sandy plain dotted with countless mushrooms of sandstones sometimes streaked with blue, sometimes white and pink... magnificent! Continue the hike to reach the famous site of Anfasieh and its Nabataean inscriptions dating from antiquity, when Petra was flourishing and the Nabataeans the masters of commerce... Arrival at the foot of the Great Dune of red sand for a bivouac under the celestial vault.

Transfer time: jeep, about 2:30. Walking time: about 5 hours. Accommodation: Camp. Meals included: breakfast - lunch - dinner.
 




Day 3 : Natural ark of Umm Fruth - Umm Rachid

Hike to the natural arch of Umm Fruth, a large natural bridge over the sands of the desert... fantastic! Easy ascent of this stone monument straight out of the red and orange sands. Continue south and arrive in the late afternoon at Umm Rachid, a magical place to contemplate the sunsets on the Sahara, far from the tourist areas.

Walking time: about 6 hours. Accommodation: Camp. Meals included: breakfast - lunch - dinner.




Day 4 : Umm Rachid - Ark of Burdha

Continuation of the hike in the valley of Umm Muqur, surrounded by huge rock faces that form the massif of the same name. The colour of these walls varies constantly with the inclination of the sun and goes from purple to pink, orange, red... impressive beauty! Arrival in late afternoon at the foot of the djebel Burdha.

Walking time: about 6 hours. Accommodation: Camp. Meals included: breakfast - lunch - dinner.
 




Day 5 : Ark of Burdha - Little Petra

If the shape and the desire are there, optional ascent of the Arch of Burdha called also Rock Bridge (35 m high), a natural arch over the Sahara, recognized as being one of the highest in the world! Superb view of the Wadi Rum desert... or direct transfer to the Siq al Barid at the gates of Petra. Hike on the Siq al Barid if the ascent of the Burdha has not been made.

Transfer: about 2 hours. Walking time: about 4 hours with the ascent of the Arch of Burdha... Accommodation: Camp. Meals included: breakfast - lunch - dinner.




Day 6 : Little Petra : Siq al Barid - Monastery of El Deir - Qsar el Bint - Snake Monument

Hiking in the Siq al Barid, also called Little Petra; discovery of the first temples and tricliniums that announce the entry into Petra. By little-traveled paths, arriving at the monastery Al Deir, a monument of impressive dimensions then, while descending the 800 steps, discovered the Qsar el Bint, one of the main temples of Petra; visit the Byzantine Church and the royal tombs and then arrive at the Snake Monument, a site composed of rocks with unusual shapes, one of which reminds us of the silhouette of an erect snake! Installation of the bivouac in a fantastic setting.

Day 7 : Petra : Roman soldier temple - High Places of Sacrifices - El Khazneh (the treasure)

Discovery of the Wadi Farasa with the temple of the Roman Soldier, the statue of the Lion and the High Place of the Sacrifice, a summit where the Nabataeans built a vast esplanade where are filed on both sides two huge obelisks. Then down to the Theater and the Treasure "El Khazneh", an impressive facade carved in the rock, with dimensions and grandiose architecture. Exit of the site by the Siq, a huge 1,200 m long rocky parade.

Day 8 : Petra : Colonnades street - Royal Tombs - Little Siq

Last hike on Petra to discover, from the crests, the superb facade of El Khazned, seen from another angle; the vision of the top of this ridge is even more grandiose than the day before!... Then down the street of the colonnades, the royal tombs and finally the little Siq.

Day 9 : Petra - Dead Sea - Amman

Return to Amman via the shores of the Dead Sea; lunch and swimming in this unusual and mysterious place to test the amazing buoyancy due to the extreme saturation in salt... Showers and changing rooms will be at your disposal. Transfer to the airport, flight to France.

Transfer: private vehicle, about 3 hours. Meals included: breakfast - lunch. Meals not included: dinner.

Amman/Paris or province flights are often scheduled with night schedules, so arrival in France may be day 10.
