Between the sea and volcanoes in Chile

Arrival of the flight in Puerto Montt. Take a bus to Puerto Varas - half an hour's journey - and discover the pearl of the lake region, Puerto Varas. This city born of German colonization will surprise you with its colonial architecture and its permanent tranquility. Take time to enjoy a local beer and walk along Lake Llanquihue, which offers a breathtaking view of the Calbuco and Osorno volcanoes.

Puerto Varas. 72 kilometres away, discover the famous Vicente Perez Rosales National Park, a jewel of Chile. The park has become famous for the Petrohue Falls. Take an hour to admire them and walk along "El sendero de los enamorados" (the lovers' trail) which will offer you the best views of the many waterfalls. Then discover Lake Todos Los Santos and join the slopes of the Osorno volcano for the "Paso Desolación" hike, a trail of about 5 hours rich in incredible views (and requiring some physical effort). In the evening, Puerto Varas will welcome you again for a well-deserved rest.

Puerto Varas. Take the road to Chiloé and sail for half an hour on the Pacific Ocean through the Chacao Canal, whose daily sailings connect the island's inhabitants with the rest of the country. Take a look at the typical houses and some of the 150 wooden churches of Chiloé in Chacao, the island's gateway. Then, join the beautiful Ancud, a city rich in history in which you would be wrong not to spend the night there. Here, there are many possibilities: visit the old Spanish fort of San Antonio, Arena Gruesa beach, a typical municipal market, not to mention the pretty viewpoint of Cerro Huaihen.

Ancud. Leave the city and venture to the northwest coast to meet its special inhabitants: the penguins. In the Puñihuil Natural Monument area, you can opt for an unforgettable boat trip with the locals. Penguins are not the only stars: with a bit of luck, you will meet sea otters, dolphins or local whales. Enough to fill a nature day well.

Ancud. Rendez-vous in Castro, whose houses on stilts have some exceptional photos for you. A day in the capital of Chiloé will not be too much. The stop at the San Francisco church and its 1,404 m² of history in the heart of Place d'Armes is mandatory. You will discover a UNESCO world heritage site that is highly symbolic of the Chilean Catholic religion. Visit the Castro market and talk with its artisans, a welcome shopping break to discover the magnificent local craftsmanship

Castro. Discover the wilderness of Chiloé on the east coast, where lush vegetation and beaches from another world will be waiting for you. From Cucao, there are trails for all tastes, from the huge sandbanks along the Pacific Ocean to the footbridges through the rainforests. In these dense forests, hiking is relatively easy, and there are footbridges to walk without having to go through the many muddy areas

Castro. Spend a good morning (3 hours driving around) for the lost paradise of Tantauco Park, a place of international biodiversity. Since the park entrance, there are several short and marked trails that allow you to spend a few hours discovering the native forests and the many bird species in the south of Chiloé.

Castro. On the way to Puerto Montt, don't hesitate to enjoy a curanto, a famous dish of Chiloé traditionally cooked in stone, which combines meat and seafood. Enough to have a full stomach before your international flight, which will take you home.
