Day 2 : DAMBULLA - SIGIRIYA - HIRIWADUNNA - DAMBULLA

Visit of the Citadel of Sigiriya or "Lion Rock", romantic and grandiose ancient site with the world famous frescoes of the "Ladies of Sigiriya". Climb the Sigiriya Rock fortress which dates back to the 10th century and is now the World Heritage Site built by King Kashyapa (477-495 AD). The 'Lion Rock' is a citadel of rare beauty, more than 200 meters above the jungle. A moat, rampart, and extensive gardens are at the base of the rock. Visit a grandiose and ancient site, which is littered with world-famous frescoes, the "Demoiselles de Sigiriya". Entrance fee EURO 30.00 per person (Not included)

After the discovery of this ancient fortress, you will set off to discover the local life.   

Just a few minutes away from Sigiriya is the typical Sri Lankan village of "Hiriwadunna". Hiking in the village allows you to discover around the village. It starts with a great walk along a protective wall of Wewa - an artificial lake. Here you can find birds, butterflies, crocodiles as well as villagers doing the daily chores - men fishing, women washing clothes - all of which add to the charm of this exotic place.

Catamaran trip - a double pirogue with the installation of seats - on the lake with a visit to a "Chena Cultivation" - agricultural field. Also enjoy an ox-cart ride.

You will have a good opportunity to communicate with villagers and experience the local life.

Day 3 : DAMBULLA - MATALE - KANDY (90Kms - 03h00)

Departure by road to Kandy via Matale.

Visit the Golden Temple of Dambulla, which was built by King Walagambahu in the 1st century BC and is now one of the World Heritage sites. You will pass from room to room to discover magnificent sculptures of Buddhas. Its walls and ceilings, covered with colourful paintings, represent the largest air of frescoes in the world. Attention for the visit of this temple, it is required to wear clothes that cover the knees and shoulders.

Arrival in Matale, visit of Nalanda Gedige, the oldest stone building in Sri Lanka. It dates from the 8th century and is a remarkable blend of Hindu and Buddhist architecture. Probably a Mahayana shrine, its stones, which are currently being restored, show Tantric carvings with sexual subjects, rare in Sri Lanka.                                                 

*Matalé: visit the spice gardens offering all the indigenous varieties such as peppers, cardamons, nutmeg, cloves, chili peppers... Tasting of spice tea and demonstration of the therapeutic virtues of each plant.

Spice tea tasting and massages with natural products in the gardens and free time in the shop (sale of spices and herbal products).

Then transfer to Kandy and the rest of the day free to explore the town of Kandy.

Visit of the Temple of the Sacred Dente at the time of religious ceremony around 09H00.

Kandy, the capital of Buddhism, located at 350m altitude and lined with hills, naturally ordered around the Sacred Lake.

Cultural center of the country, the city fell to the English in 1815. Nestled in a green valley (between the last rice fields and the first tea plantations), surrounded by low hills and buckled by the Mahaweli, the largest river in Sri Lanka, Kandy remains a centre for crafts, music and dance. Charm, splendour of the past and serenity describe the city. Visit the Royal Palace, the Temple of the Tooth or "Dalada Maligawa" which contains the sacred relic of the Tooth of Buddha. Then, visit the town and the local market of Kandy and free time for shopping in the alleys lined with numerous stalls offering: silk, local handicrafts, jewelry, basketry, masks etc...Visit the town of Kandy and free time for shopping.

The Royal Botanical Garden of Peradeniya is located about 5.5 km west of the city of Kandy in the Central Province of Sri Lanka and attracts 2 million visitors every year. It is famous for its collection of a variety of orchids. It includes more than 4,000 species of plants, including orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palms. Attached to it is the National Herbarium of Sri Lanka. The total area of the Botanical Garden is 147 acres (0.59 km2), at 460 meters above sea level, and with an annual rainfall of 200 days. It is managed by the National Botanic Gardens Division of the Ministry of Agriculture. The Deputy Director of the Botanical Garden in Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, around 1910. This morning after breakfast departure to Negombo.   

On the way visit of the tea plantation in Giragama.

Visit of the factory and the tea plantation. Tea tasting and free time in the shop of the factory. Share with the local community of tea pickers! (They do not normally work on Sundays and holidays).

Continuation to Negombo and installation in the room.
