From May to September or October the monsoon hit the country. Access to certain isolated places may be difficult or impossible because of the collapse of roads, but the main tourist sites are not affected and this period is pleasant because there are few tourists. From October to the end of February, this is the temperate, soft and dry season, ideal for visiting Burma. The sun is at the meeting, but temperatures are still bearable, it will even have to include pullovers, cups and sometimes gloves in the North, and in the Mandalay area a sweater in the evening will not be too much. Rain verdi the rice fields, and the jungle is lush. Very photogenic! From late February to May, the heat is really overwhelming, the mid-day visits difficult. This season is perfectly suited for sea bathing.
Diverse landscapesThe multiplicity of Myanmar's climates favours very diverse vegetation. Roads are sometimes lost in the rice fields around Yangon, sometimes in Savanes savanes, in the Chaung Tha jungle, or in the Plateaux lake plateaus. White sand beaches in the west are known to travellers as well as the Himalayan mountains to the north. An authentic destinationThis is a country that brings together a hundred different cultures. Each minority group has its own beliefs, traditional dress and original culinary recipes. Open to tourists for just about fifteen years, the Burmese have remained a touching innocence that surprises travellers. The Adventure in Everyday LifeWhile tourism is developing at high speed, visiting Myanmar remains an off-the-counter adventure. For example, there are elephant walks in the Breast Yé camp and trekkings in the villages around Kalaw or Hsipaw. Local agencies are particularly well placed to organise a programme of tailor-made activities according to your tastes, budget and local realities...Meditation, Art of the Burmese SpiritThe country is one of the most popular destinations for meditation. Most monasteries offer this possibility and foreign visitors will gladly be initiated by the monks. If you wish to meditate in a monastery, the local agencies will be able to guide you best and will even be able to integrate this stay on a custom trip to Myanmar.
It is perfectly possible to travel relatively economically in Burma, staying in guesthouses without comfort, attending street stalls to take their meals and public transport. However, prices charged, especially those of hotels, aircraft and entry rights, are sometimes completely disconnected from reality. Burma remains a fairly expensive destination, compared with other countries in South-East Asia, where openness to public tourism is much older. Don't compare prices to those of neighbouring countries, especially in terms of accommodation, you will be énerveriez very fast! Hotels are always full even if the hotel increases its prices by 20%, you can't really want to give in to temptation. And quality doesn't always follow... But you are not in Burma to spend your day in your hotel room, right?FormalitésEntry into Burma requires European and U.S. citizens possession of a passport valid 6 months after your return date, as well as a maximum validity of 28 days, to obtain from the Embassy prior to your departure.
Don't hesitate to plunge into the Burmese language to better penetrate the heart of the Burmese. It is very easy to find a particular teacher. Ask your hotel for information and find a teacher adapted to your needs.Whether it is an official teacher or a young person who wants to communicate with a stranger or exchange courses in French or English from courses in Burma.Learning the language. There are different ways to learn a few basics of language and the offer for self-learning can be done on different media: CD, DVD, exercise books or even directly on the Internet.
The Burmese currency, le, allows for all daily purchases (food, crafts, local buses, taxis, trishaws and guesthouses). In hotels, railway stations (less and less) and larger expenses, you will sometimes be asked to pay in U.S. dollars (and only in perfect notes, and printed after 2006!). That said, if you can only pay en, nobody will refuse your money...Parts are no longer used, and you will find only 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1 000 and 5 000 kyat notes. The 5 000 kyat are practically used only by tourists, and sometimes you may have some difficulty obtaining the currency. Tickets for 5, 10 and 20 are no longer used only to give children as pocket money, or for offerings in temples.
Like most of its South-East Asian neighbours, Burma has a tropical climate, alternating a dry season and a rainy season. However, relatively large variations are observable across regions. While Yangon is hot and humid for much of the year, the central plateaus have a more temperate atmosphere, and snow and glaciers are present in the northern part of the country in the foothills of the Himalayas. If you travel from December to February and want to go to the north, you can still enjoy the evening and early morning.
