Escape to the Heart of Kyrgyz Nature
Located in the center of Kyrgyzstan, Lake Issyk-Kul is a beautiful mountain lake surrounded by lovely summer pastures, the "jailoo," where yurt camps are set up in season. Even though the comfort remains sparse and you sleep in a simple sleeping bag, it is always a memorable experience. You can get to the lake by car or on foot, but the most enjoyable way to travel is really by horse.
At more than 3000 meters altitude on the Kyrgyz Tian Shan mountain range, Lake Song Kol is the most important freshwater reserve in Kyrgyzstan with a surface area of 275 km². It is frozen and covered with snow 150 days a year, being accessible only from June to September, during which its green shores serve as pasture for many animals.
