Trip description

A full tour of the islands can be considered if you have three weeks. Basically, you can stay a week in São Miguel, ten good days in the central group and four days in the western group, at the very heart of Europe.

Visit of Ponta Delgada, its churches, museums and gardens. Walk through the old streets of the centre and the Jesuit do Mar marina. Sleep in Ponta Delgada.




Day 2 : Sete Cidades

Directorate Sete Cidades. Walk around the crater and then descend to the natural swimming pools of Mosteiros. Stroll on the north coast. Sleep in the surroundings of São Vicente.

Visit the fascinating musée de l'ÉmigrationAzorean in Ribeira Grande. Sleep in Ribeira Grande.

Visit of the tea plantation. Furnas and its beautiful valley. Walk around the lake. Visit of. Sleep in Furnas.

Stop at Salto do Cavalo, a fantastic viewpoint over the Furnas valley. Walk, if possible, to Pico da Vara. Sleep in Nordeste.

Pico Bartolomeu Belvedere. The Serra da Tronqueira route. Discover Povoação, place of the first settlement on the island. Sleep in Furnas or Povoação.




Day 7 : Beach at Ribeira Quente or visit the Lombadas valley

Beautiful hiking in this beautiful and wild corner. Return to Ponta Delgada by Lagoa and visit the ceramic factory.




Day 8 : Faial

Arriving by plane in Faial in the central islands. Visit to Horta from his port. Climb Monte da Guia for a good overview of the bay. It is possible to swim in Porto Pim on the other side of the peninsula.

Tour of the island via Praia do Almoxarife, Cedros, Capelinhos and its fascinating centre d'interprétation du volcan. Walk on the heights or on the volcano itself, then return to Horta from the south via Morro de Castelo Branco.

In the center of the island, an essential passage by Caldeira.




Day 11 : Departure for Pico by boat



Count about minutes and discover Madalena and its surroundings. Explore the Gruta das Torres, get lost in the giant labyrinth of Crição Velha's vineyards, classified as World Heritage, visit the Vin Wine Museum and leave with a bottle of verdelho. Sleep in Madalena.




Day 12 : Tour of the island

Tour of Pico Island along the north coast. Walk in the middle of the adegas, these traditional basalt wine cellars, and discover the wine-growing area and the interpretive centre of Lajido. Visit of São Roque and its whaling factory. The interior and its sparkling lakes, then Lajes do Pico, its beautiful museum, its world-end atmosphere and its magnificent views over Mount Pico.




Day 13 : Meeting with whales



Whale watching in Lajes (also possible from Madalena), then walk in the afternoon. Or visit the south coast and its mistérios, lava flows that swept everything on their path, or on the east coast, aside from everything, and less tourist.




Day 14 : Towards São Jorge

Departure from Madalena or São Roque (Cais do Pico) for São Jorge. Arrival in Laid and discover the small town. Visit of Sete Fonts park, near Rosais. Walk to the lighthouse if possible.

Visit of the handicraft cooperative of Senhora da Encarnaço, in Ribeira do Nabo, and then the Fromage cheese factory at Riberira Seca. Photo stops on the fajãs road, and definitely stop at Fajã dos Vimes Café. Depending on your time, push to Topo or return directly to Laid.

Not to be missed: Fajã do Ouvidor, Fajã dos Cubres and Fajã da Caldeira de Santo Cristo, one of the most inaccessible. Only walkers will be able to reach it: superb panoramas guaranteed.




Day 17 : Return to Faial

Last walk on São Jorge before returning to Faial. The ultimate stroll stroll along the mythical pier of Horta marina and Peter's Bar, an equally legendary institution.

Arrival in the Western Azores. Discovery of Morro Alto mount. This is the highlight of Flores, a majestic place where nature is queen. The view is panoramic.




Day 19 : The Lakes of Flores



The Lagoa Negra, Comprida and Branca, as well as the Funda and Rasa, are natural wonders not to be missed. As for the Poço da Alagoinha, it is one of the most famous landscapes of the island.

There are approximately between Fajazinha and Ponta da Fajã; they pride themselves on the island and contribute to its reputation for luxuriance.




Day 21 : Corvo



Découverte Discovery, little stone lost in the Atlantic. Visit of caldeirão: an imposing crater in Monte Gordo. This is the major attraction of the island. There are two beautiful lakes.
