World Heritage Sites to Discover

The mountains of Yemen and their terraced landscapes are not yet classified as a protected area, but three architectural sites are. Zabid, listed in 1996, is a city in the Tihama that served as a setting for Pasolini's Arabian Nights. It is recognized for its architecture enriched with stucco and lime. Shibam, classified in 1982, is the desert city whose mudbrick buildings scrape the eastern sky of the country, offering a unique visual surprise. Finally, Sanaa, listed in 1986, has been beautifully restored and paved with local stones. It offers a unique urban maze in the midst of corporate souks.

Sunny Weather All Year Round

Seasons do exist in Yemen, but they don't manifest in the same way as in European regions. Even during the two rainy seasons, in April and May, and then in July and August, it is only in the late afternoon that rain pours for an hour over the mountains of Sanaa. Yet, throughout the day, the weather is fine and the sun gives the country a uniform tan. The winter cold only appears in February and March, and even then, it is very bearable.

A Warm Population

The Yemeni population, which has never experienced colonization, does not harbor any complexes towards foreigners and is very proud of the hospitality it can offer its visitors. It is not uncommon, during several days of hiking in the mountains, to spend the night sleeping on the cushions of a host family's living room and sharing the traditional meal. The Yemenis, who live in a country they consider a paradise on earth, will be very happy to share their passion with you.

A budget travel destination: Yemen

Considering the distance between Yemen and Europe, this travel destination is quite affordable. On site, there are inexpensive hotels and budget-friendly restaurants. The organized travel principle is undoubtedly the most practical, as it also includes renting off-road vehicles with an experienced driver. This is the safest solution to fully enjoy the trip without getting lost on the steep mountain roads.
