Spanish is spoken in Cuba. But English and French (thanks to the cheap courses of the French Alliance above all) are often spoken also.
The country is living under the double currency regime. The Cuban peso ($), the national currency, is generally concerned only with premises. Nevertheless, those who are fluent in Spanish can change small amounts on site and pay a certain number of food products (pizza, sandwiches, drinks...) directly in national currency. It is much cheaper. As a tourist, however, you will be required to settle most of your purchases in Cuban convertible pesos (CUC). And in reality, all current consumer goods are on sale in CUC, even for Cubans...
